Matthew Broderick will be returning to Broadway next spring in a revival of “The Philanthropist,” a comedy by the English playwright Christopher Hampton.
The Roundabout Theater Company production, directed by David Grindley, will open April 26, 2009, at the American Airlines Theater, At the announcement they made today, they also stated they will begin preview performances April 10.
This will be Matthews first Broadway appearance since the 2005 revival of “The Odd Couple.” He portrays Philip, an insular college professor.
“The Philanthropist” had a 64-performance run on Broadway in 1971 in a production that featured Alec McCowen, Jane Asher and Victor Spinetti.
