Mario Lavandeira owes everything he has to his readers. If not for his readers, Mario would have what many people in the world do, a boring online personal diary, filled with personalized rants and blabbering. I watched the video blog that Mario posted in response to his readers suggestions regarding his political postings. It really upset me.
If there is one thing I have learned from starting this site, as well as our dealings with Mario in court is that if you question his authority or dispute his “integrity” he becomes enraged. One could speculate that he is protecting his brand, but there is a proper and improper way to go about that. In his video blog, Mario admonishes and berates his readers for having the audacity to question him or tell him what to do.
This statement by him, completely contradicts his previous statements. “I think what I do is noble. I think my job title is entertainer.” Any legitimate entertainer will tell you that in order to be successful, in order to be a true entertainer, your goal is to provide your audience with what they want. It is why music, movies, and television must constantly evolve to adapt to the changing times and culture.
Mario states in the video that he has been receiving mail from his readers who would rather him not post as many political entries. Instead of a somewhat dignified response, or a response that would explain his reasoning for so many political oriented posts, he admonishes them. “Well, first of all,” Mario begins with the same angry and vengeful voice and look that he gets when talking about Miley Cyrus, “There’s a lovely little thing called the scroll feature. That lets you just scroll past any item, picture, word, whatever that you don’t want to read.” He continues “Then Skip it. It’s really that simple.”
He might as well have said this to his readers:
“Well, first of all…This is my site. I don’t know who the hell you people think you are! If you are too stupid to realize I don’t really care what you think. By the way morons, there is a little scroll bar on the side. Use it if you don’t want to read certain things. Why? Because I don’t really care what you think. It’s that simple.”
Mario then goes on to compare himself to alcohol. Does that mean he’s admitting what he does is unhealthy in certain aspects? Mario then rants for the next minute or so about how he is not trying to influence anyone or their political viewpoints, but that he is voting for Barack Obama and if Hillary Clinton was still in the race he would be voting for her.
After that brief interlude, he continues “I will continue to talk about politics on my website. You know why?” he asks, “Because, I can. It’s my website. It’s PerezHilton.com, and I can write about whatever I want.” Does that remind anyone else of that song “It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to”?
He then continues on his tirade against the people who are paying his bills, the readers. In the middle of speaking Mario appears to have an episode of Tourette Syndrome. (I apologize to anyone who is inflicted with this neurological disorder or knows somebody that has it. I am not demeaning or mocking the severity of it). He then states that he did it to try and piss you off. Ok, so he instigates an argument. He then clarifies that he hopes you don’t get into trouble at work. (We all know that’s not true.) But, that if you do it’s your fault, because you should have turned the volume down already. He then proceeds to smack himself in the face about a half dozen times. He didn’t really need to do that himself, I’m sure there is a line of people ready to sign up to do it for him.
All in all, I could go on for days about the narcissistic nature of this. The rudeness to his readers or the ability to make anyone question what the fuck is wrong with our society, that a 30 year old man gets paid to act like himself, when himself is less than desirable, but I won’t.
If you have not seen the video yet, go here. ( I hate giving him clicks, but it’s not worth dealing with another cease and desist letter, even though we won round 1. Woohoo!!)

Margie, first of all, I feel your personal distress; I know Mario disgusts you and digs at your insides…because he repels me as well. However, I would never even dignify him with a hit because I know what he’s about. Mario is an abuser, plain and simple. And his readers go back for more, unfortunately like the victims of abuse often do…until they are educated, find the strength, the resources, to break free. I overdramatize a bit for effect,(Mario is not physically abusive) but for a good reason. I would like to make a suggestion to you and Liz — create a personal PSA (video blog) of your own, in response to Mario. Put it here, on UTUBE, you know the drill. The video image (if you take off your glasses, please) is much more powerful and will convey your emotions right to your viewers. People will tell other people — it will EMPOWER them to stop clicking on a site where they are abused. You are noble, you’ve got to go to video on this one. Good luck to you
